PROSPECT
Indonesia new capital Nusantara -
Coordinates: 1°03′40″S 116°40′50″E
Nusantara was chosen as the new capital city name of Indonesia to embody the national vision known as Wawasan Nusantara (lit. 'Nusantara Vision'; 'The Vision of the Indonesian archipelago') and is also a reflection of the country's status as an archipelagic state.
All the government institutions, presidential palace, international organization buildings and foreign embassy buildings are to be moved to Nusantara. It is to cost USD 33 billion to execute the plan. Around 256,142 hectares of land has been allocated to build the capital city.
The site of the new capital, some 2,000km (1,250 miles) northeast of Jakarta, will straddle the regencies of North Penjam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara in Kalimantan Province on Borneo. It is situated in the centre of Indonesia, in one of the areas least prone to the natural disasters.
